      Hi, Can anyone help?
      I have a 1974 VW baywindow.
i have been restoring and driving it for a year now, when a couple of weeks ago a knocking noise can be heard coming from the back rear wheels.
It seems to be when pulling away from lights its at its loudest, but the faster you get and the more gears you go through, the noise seem to go. it also seems to knock / grind on a wheel rotation, making me think its a bearing problem.
The thing is that it doesnt do it all the time and if you put your clutch in at no matter what speed your going, the knocking / grinding noise goes.
Does anyone know if there is a common fault that i dont know about?
As the noise goes when the clutch is pressed, im now wondering if its a gear / clutch problem, but then a friend of mine says when a clutch is pressed then all the weight is taken off so basically im free wheeling.
      please help ;-(
